New YorkPrivacy Policy

Privacy Policy

We run a directory of public records. There are no accounts, no forms and no tracking, so there is very little about you for us to hold in the first place.

This policy explains what NY Auto Repair Shops (“we”, “us”) does with personal information in connection with the website at nyautorepairshops.com (the “Site”). It applies to visitors to the Site. It does not apply to the shops listed on the Site, which are independent businesses we have no relationship with.

Personal information we collect

Information you give us. The Site has no accounts, no sign-up and no forms. The only way to give us personal information is to email us — for example to claim a shop page or ask for a correction. In that case we hold your email address, your name if you sign one, and whatever you choose to put in the message.

Information collected automatically. The Site is static files served by a commercial content delivery network. Like any web host, that provider processes the request data needed to deliver a page — IP address, user agent, the URL requested, date and time — under its own operational logging and security filtering. We do not build profiles from those logs, export them, or join them to anything else.

Information from other sources. The shop pages are built from public records and public listings, described under Where the shop data comes from below. If you are named in one of those public records — most often as a shop’s owner of record in the DMV registry — that information reaches us from the record, not from you.

Tracking technologies

We load no advertising or social pixels. If you accept the cookie banner, we load analytics, which records which pages are viewed and sets a first-party cookie so repeat visits from one browser are counted once. If you decline, or before you answer, it never loads. Your answer itself is kept in localStorage on your device and never transmitted. Our Cookie Notice explains both in detail.

How we use personal information

We use the little we hold to reply to you, to correct or remove a listing when asked, to keep the Site available and secure, and to comply with law or enforce our Terms of Use. We do not use it for marketing, advertising, profiling or automated decisions, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising — which, under several state privacy laws, is the practice that triggers an opt-out right. There is nothing here to opt out of.

How we share personal information

We share personal information only with the providers who host the Site, carry our email and, with your consent, measure page views, and only so they can perform that service; with professional advisers where needed; where the law requires it or to protect legal rights; and with a successor if the Site is ever sold or merged. We do not disclose it to anyone else.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you, to appeal a refusal, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. Email hello@nyautorepairshops.com and we will respond within the period the applicable law allows. Because we hold no accounts, the practical answer for most visitors is that we hold nothing to retrieve.

If a shop page names you and you want it corrected or removed, use the same address and include the shop name and DMV facility number. Note that we can correct our copy, but the underlying public record stays with the agency that published it.

Where the shop data comes from

Facility name, address, owner of record, licence type and licence dates come from the New York State DMV facility registry, published as a public record on data.ny.gov. Inspection counts and vehicle categories come from DMV inspection-transaction records. Ratings, review counts, review snippets and photos come from public Google Maps listings and remain the property of their authors. Every shop page links to the DMV record it was built from.

We publish only what is already public, and we add no opinions, scores or rankings of our own beyond ordering by the counts in the DMV data.

Retention and security

We keep email correspondence for as long as needed to handle the request and to show what we did about it, then delete it. CDN logs are retained on the provider’s own schedule. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us over the internet.

Children

The Site is for a general adult audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If what we collect changes, this page changes first and will name what is set and what it does. Material changes will be flagged on the Site.
