10/10 — highly recommend this shop! John helped me with my NYS inspection and was beyond honest, which is rare these days. He didn’t try to upsell me or take advantage—he was upfront about everything. He let me know I’ll need tires soon but made it clear I’m not there yet, and even knew exactly when my current tires were replaced -mind you I had the tires replaced with another shop in 2022 in Suffolk County! That…
level of transparency and integrity speaks volumes. I’ll be coming here for all my vehicle repairs and maintenance from now on.

Super sketchy experience. My mom went in for a basic inspection and this dude tried to hustle her into buying new tires from him just to pass it. The car is literally almost brand new. Inspections have nothing to do with forcing people to buy tires from your shop, that’s just straight-up scamming. He really thought he could take advantage because it was last minute. Nah. Not happening. Take your business somewhere…
honest dude!
Response from the owner · May 5, 2026: If your tires are not up to spec they will not pass inspection regardless of age of vehicle. And yes we sell tires but we never have and never will force anyone to buy from us. you are welcome to take your business anywhere you’d like. These are slanderous non-factual claims. - LLes★☆☆☆☆ April 9, 2026
Heads up neighbors If you need a vehicle inspection done DO NOT go to Great Bear in Island Park. They tried to get me for over 1k in repairs before they would pass my car, and I knew it was bogus. Took it for a second opinion at an actual HONEST MECHANIC and was told that only 1 out of the laundry list of repairs GB had given me needed to be done. A $350 job, NOT 1k+. Shameful.
Response from the owner · April 10, 2026: Your car was in bad shape and was a danger to you and everyone els on the road around you. You needed a lot of work. It was a disservice to you if the other shop didn’t recommend the same services. - SSteven★★★★★ August 17, 2024
I had a positive Inspection experience here. I regularly service my car at Hyundai so I am very aware of any potential repairs with my vehicle. These folks including the owner were in my opinion honest. I recently had an experience elsewhere during an routine oil change that claimed I needed certain work done that Hyundai did not identify as an issue. I will keep this facility in mind for future work.

I've been going here for over a decade. I have never been steered wrong. There have been plenty of times when I went in for something and they told me if I went to the dealership, I could get it for free. Honesty like that is hard to come by. Make this place your local mechanic.

Went for New York inspection and they failed my vehicle because of one tire they felt needed to be replaced and new windshield wipers. All because they sell tires and wanted to make more money. Also, they never told me i failed inspection at location, all they said was everything was good but i needed to replace a tire but they never said i failed. They let me leave thinking all was good, i ended up with a ticket…
on my car when i noticed i didn't have a new inspection sticker. i thought based on conversation with them i passed and just needed to replace a tire in the future. The owner took no responsibility and asked if i wanted to replace a tire or go elsewhere. Terrible experience cares more about up selling then doing right by people . Yes, i will go elsewhere all others should too.
